How the "perfect" workout
leads to weight loss plateaus

perfect workout

Everyone is in search of that one perfect workout routine that will help them lose weight quickly and put their bodies back in shape. We spend millions on infomercial videos claiming to be the and all of your workout searches. We excitedly buy but only receive sub par results. Why?

The truth of the matter is that no matter how well planned out a fitness routine is, it will only work for a short period of time. This is because ours bodies are very good at adapting to change. Usually after a 4 week period of time, our bodies have adapted to our workout program and results flatten out. This phenomenon is called an exercise or weight loss plateau.

When most people reach a plateau, they find that no matter how hard they work they can not seem to lose any more weight. Do not be frightened by a plateau, as most people reach one at some point in their life. The good part is that you can overcome a plateau by making some simple changes in your exercise routine.

How do you overcome an
exercise or weight loss plateau?

You do this through a process known as muscle confusion.

When your muscles become used to do a certain exercise or routine, you should switch to another exercise or routine. Therefore, you should not stick to one "perfect" workout, but to multiple perfect workouts.

muscle confusion

If you have been running for 4 weeks, take a week off and try lifting weights, or try participating in a plyometric routine (intense, high speed cardiovascular exercises). If you are lifting weights, try putting the weights down for a week and participating in a cardiovascular routine. Heck, if you really want to confuse your body, try yoga! Find something different that works for you and that you enjoy doing.

The purpose of muscle confusion is to not allow your body to adapt to any routine you do. Do you get bored doing the same thing over and over again? Well guess what, so does you body! By varying your exercises and intensity levels month to month, your body will respond much quicker to your workouts and lose weight faster.

Say goodbye to the perfect workout and goodbye to weight loss plateaus.
